The ordinary can be defined as something indefinable that exists in the gap, in the pause, in between cultural categories.” (Mikhail Epstein)

Certain things have an almost indisputable high status, maybe most of all as symbols of economic stability or success. Others things we think of as garbage - useless and replaceable. In between there is something we all, in one way or another, recognize, but neither desire nor reject. These things exist, but we seldom reflect upon them - they are ordinary.

As Epstein argues; the ordinary can be defined as something indefineable. It is without a common characteristic, and can rateher be defined by it’s lack of a homogenoues aestethic or charactheristic.
